Jeff Chan fulfilled his promise to his eldest daughter, four-year-old Amara, who requested his dad to step up in Game Two of the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals between Rain or Shine and San Miguel Beer on Thursday night.
The Elasto Painters gunner said he got scolded by his daughter after he wound up scoreless, taking just four shots and dishing out three assists in 29 minutes in the series opener.
“Actually, napagalitan ako nung anak ko eh,” Chan admitted. “Sabi sa akin, ‘Daddy, please take those shots. Be aggressive.’ So sabi ko, ‘Sige, anak, I promise you I’ll be aggressive.’”

The 31-year-old guard lived up to his word as he fired 16 points on 10 attempts on top of four assists in 26 minutes, leading the Painters to the 105-97 win that tied the series at one each.
“Thank God, nag-work naman,” Chan said.
The left shooter from Bacolod hit seven points in the last three minutes alone, including back-to-back three-pointers that gave the Painters enough cushion to weather the Beermen’s late rally.
“Kumpiyansa lang,” Chan said. “Nung third quarter medyo masama shooting ko, sabi ni coach na wag ako mag-hesitate.”
“Talagang kailangan namin alagaan yun eh,” he added, referring to their 25-point lead, which they nearly lost once again.
