RAIN or Shine hung tough in the endgame to repel a pesky Barako Bull side, 96-93, in the PBA Governors’ Cup on Saturday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Jeff Chan and import Arizona Reid delivered the key baskets down the stretch for the Elasto Painters, who survived the scoring explosion of Energy import Eric Wise to notch a second win in five games.
The Elasto Painters also dealt the Energy their fourth loss in five games.
“Barako bull has been really tough. Their record does not really show how good this team is,” Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao said. “We just had a little bit more experience in finishing games.
“That was just the difference. But otherwise, they were there all the way.”
Wise exploded for 41 points and 19 rebounds on top of six assists and two steals. The second-generation import also scored on a layup that gave Barako a six-point cushion midway through the fourth quarter as the Energy appeared poised for the victory.
But counterpart Reid and Chan combined to score all but one of the Elasto Painters’ last 11 points that enabled them to erase the deficit and hold on.
Reid finished with 34 points and 13 boards for the Elasto Painters, whose experience proved to be the difference in a game that saw 15 lead changes and eight deadlocks.
