JEFF Chan, Art Dela Cruz, and Julian Sargent are not expected to play for Barangay Ginebra in their opening match against TNT on Sunday at the Philippine Arena.
Ginebra coach Tim Cone said Chan could miss at least a week as he is still recovering after bone spurs were removed from his foot at the end of the Governors’ Cup.
“He should be back in a week or two,” said Cone.
Dela Cruz, meanwhile, sustained a strained hamstring a few days ago while Sargent is still recovering from the shoulder surgery he sustained last year.
“Julian Sargent is still recovering from his shoulder injury last year. Art dela Cruz strained his hamstring a couple of days ago. We don’t think he will be ready for Sunday but he should be ready for the next game,” said Cone.
Chan, Dela Cruz, and Sargent didn’t suit up for Ginebra in its tune-up game against Phoenix on Thursday.
In general though, Cone said the team is healthy for the coming Philippine Cup where they will be going up against the KaTropa in the opener.
“Aside from that, we are healthy. If we can keep Greg (Slaughter) healthy for the year, keep Japeth (Aguilar) healthy for the year, we are going to compete. We are going to compete every conference. We can be able to compete at the highest level,” said Cone.
