Jeff Cariaso hoping against hope as Noy Baclao set to undergo MRI

    Sep 20, 2019

ALASKA coach Jeff Cariaso is hoping against hope as they await the MRI results of Noy Baclao, who was feared to have sustained a patella tendon rapture on his right knee in the Aces' opening game in the PBA Governors Cup.

The former Ateneo big man held on to his knee as soon as he landed badly after his layup was blocked by Columbian big man Andreas Cahilig early in the fourth quarter at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Baclao was stretchered off the court and was immediately checked by medics inside the Aces’ locker room.

“Im praying that its not bad,” said Cariaso after Alaska’s 110-117 loss to Columbian Dyip in his first game since replacing Alex Compton as the Uytengsu franchise's head coach.

“But it looked bad and it felt bad,” he added. “We've seen a lot of knee injuries in the past, so we can already assume what it could be. Pero like I said until we see the MRI we'll be sure. We're not sure yet.”

Baclao was taken to the hospital after the game.

“Really saddened by Noy. We never want anyone to get hurt,” said Cariaso.
