BARANGAY Ginebra is not about to change its brand of players’ jersey even if its head coach happens to be the owner of apparel product Titan.

Longtime Filipino sports apparel Accel recently sealed another year of partnership with the PBA’s most popular ballclub, guaranteeing it will continue to provide players’ jerseys to the franchise for the coming 40th season of the pro league.

“We made sure we keep Ginebra. Everybody knows it’s the number one team in the PBA today,” said Accel marketing head Ryann Uy.

The possible switch in jersey sponsor was anticipated the moment Jeffrey Cariaso was appointed head coach of the franchise.

Titan had been the ones providing the jerseys of San Mig Coffee players since 2012 when he came on board as one of coach Tim Cone’s deputies.

But Ginebra’s case is different, although it was not known if Titan made a bid for the endorsement deal with the Gin Kings.

Uy stressed it has been a priority for management of Accel to keep Ginebra on its list of teams being supported.

“Hindi rin kasi papayag si sir (Accel president) Willy (Ortiz) na mawala sa amin ang Ginebra. Isa kasi ito sa magandang marketing partners, plus they have the all-time best-selling replica jersey (of the company),” said the Sporteum Philippines official.

Ortiz for his part bared that though Cariaso is already at the helm of Ginebra, he doesn’t feel threatened by the possibility of the Kings ending their partnership with Accel.

“Nadidinig ko nga na puwede raw makuha ng company ni Jeff 'yung jersey rights ng Ginebra. Pero hindi naman. Matagal na kaming partner ng Ginebra,” said Ortiz, one of the pioneering executives in the sporting goods business in the country.

“Ginebra will also be one of our most important partners,” he said, recalling Accel’s collaboration with Ginebra started out in 2001 when the brand first came out in the market.

The top Filipino sports apparel maker also renewed its partnership with San Miguel Beer.

And to further expand its clout as the country’s top apparel maker, Accel also finalized a deal with coach Manny Pacquiao and Kia Motors, which makes its debut in the league as one of two expansion franchises for the coming season.
