INJURED Phoenix wingman JC Intal hopes to rejoin the team later in its campaign in the PBA Governors Cup, especially if the Fuel Masters will make the playoffs of the season-ending conference.
The 32-year-old Intal has recently undergone surgery under renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. George Canlas to remove bone spurs in his ankle, although he’s now doing post-operation rehab to strengthen the injured foot.
Hopefully, he’ll already be up and about to join Phoenix if and when the team makes it deep in the pro league's season-ending conference.
“I’m definitely ready to go come the Philippine Cup (next season), pero I’m still hoping to play man lang sana kung makapasok kami sa quarterfinals,” said Intal.
Despite being on the injury list, the shooting forward out of Ateneo was re-signed to a three-year contract by Phoenix management recently, along with undersized power forward Willie Wilson.
While he hasn’t suited up yet for the Fuel Masters, he was at ringside when the team clinched its first win in the tournament - a 120-107 beating of Globalport Batang Pier last Sunday.
“It was a good win to boost back the morale of the team,” said the former Gilas stalwart of the Fuel Masters, who improved to 1-3 overall in the standings.
“Eugene Phelps did very well in his first game. Sana he’ll be able to maintain it,” added Intal about the Fuel Masters’ import who erupted for 52 points in his league debut.
The soft-spoken Intal showed up at the Smart Araneta Coliseum with his entire hair dyed in brown color.
Asked what was it all about, he broke into a hearty laugh and said, “Wala lang magawa. Nabaliw lang ako, hahaha.”
