WORDS couldn't describe the relief JC Intal felt after Phoenix pulled off the gritty 92-90 Game Three win over San Miguel in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup semifinals on Sunday night.
The 35-year-old forward had a chance to ice the game for the Fuel Masters with 15.4 seconds but muffed both of his attempts to leave the door open for the Beermen.
Much to his relief, Chris Ross missed a three-point attempt and Terrence Romeo rushed his shot in the endgame as Phoenix came away with the win that trimmed the Beermen's lead to 2-1 in the best-of-seven finals.
"I'm just very thankful na nanalo kami," heaved Intal, who finished with eight points, nine rebounds, and four assists in the contest.
"I know I missed my two free throws, pero wala na tayong magagawa. Tapos na yun. I just have to stay positive. Baka mangyari ulit next game, so I have to take extra shots. I'm ready next game."
Intal, however, took some time after the game to return to the Big Done floor after he had showered and take a few more free-throw shooting practice after going 2-of-6 from the stripe after the game.
The win was Phoenix's first-ever victory in a PBA semifinal game and that fact wasn't lost on Intal, who has been with the team since Barako Bull sold its franchise to the Dennis Uy-led company back in 2016 together with Willy Wilson.
"Syempre sobrang thankful lang kami. Talagang gutom na gutom kaming manalo. Yun ang ipinakita namin sa game na ito," he said.
By the way, Intal went 4-of-5 during shooting practice.
