THE TnT Katropa offered its big win over Meralco on Saturday to main man Jayson Castro, who finally got hitched to long-time partner Lyle Castro.
Import Terrence Jones and Ryan Reyes took care of business for the Katropa in the absence of Castro as the two combined for 68 points in the team’s 104-91 blowout of the Bolts at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Jones and Reyes also accounted for 13 of the 16 three-point shots made by the team in the Petron Blaze Saturday Special.
“We wish Jayson well sa wedding niya,” said coach Bong Ravena as the Katropa notched win no. 6 in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup to grab the solo lead.
Some members of the team later proceeded to Castro’s wedding reception at the Marriot Hotel at Clark Freeport in Mabalacat, Pampanga.
Standing among the wedding godfathers include TnT Katropa team owner Manny V. Pangilinan, PBA Board Chairman Ricky Vargas, and long-time manager Danny Espiritu. Castro has not played with any other teams in the league since being picked no. 3 overall by the franchise during the 2008 draft.
Initially, Castro requested that the TnT game against Meralco be moved to another day in order for the entire team to attend the wedding rite.
Unfortunately, the schedule for the eliminations had already been released by the Commissioner’s Office and could no longer be altered.
The wedding was long in coming.
Castro already made prior plans about it but kept on postponing it to accommodate his stint with the Gilas Pilipinas basketball team.
“Kaya malaki talaga sakripisyo ni Jayson sa national team. But we’re happy na finally natuloy na rin yung kasal niya. We will them well,” said PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial.
