JORDANIAN import Sam Daghles has no doubt that Talk ‘N Text teammate Jayson Castro will once again be one of the top point guards in this year’s Fiba-Asia men’s basketball championship in Changsha, Hunan, China.

Daghles said seeing Castro in practice and play his first two games in the Governors Cup convinced him that the combo guard out of Philippine Christian University will be the next dominant guard in Asia.

“I think he’ll (Castro) be one of the top point guards in the Fiba-Asia. I think his confidence is rising,” Daghles told Spin.ph, moments after seeing Castro score 34 points in Talk ‘N Text’s 123-120 loss to GlobalPort Friday night.

The 6-foot-3 Daghles admitted giving some pointers to the cat-quick Gilas mainstay, particularly on his decision-making on when to make the pass or when to attack.

“Jayson attacking-wise, he’s one of the best. But probably passing the ball and understanding when to pass or when to keep attacking, that’s just what he needs to keep working on. But the way he attacks is phenomenal,” explained the 35-year-old guard, who was born in Taiyuan, Shanxi, China.

With his former coach Tab Baldwin now handling Gilas, Daghles believes the 5-foot-8 Castro is bound to get even better.

“The best is yet to come for Jayson, especially with coach Tab, he’ll use him very well the way he used me when I played for him (in Jordan),” he added.

And since Castro is slowly rounding into top form, Daghles said he’s ready to let the PBA’s three-time Best Player take charge this conference.

“He was getting the flow today, which I liked,” he said. “I’m happy. I wanted to take the backseat and let him do his thing.”

Talk ‘N Text, which fell to 3-2, returns to action next Tuesday when it faces Meralco.
