JAYSON Castro shrugged off the criticism after a crucial assist late in regulation that sent the TNT-Magnolia game into overtime.
Castro issued a well-timed pass to Troy Rosario in the dying seconds of the fourth — although viewers were quick to point out online that he should have been called for a travelling violation — with Rosario converting a floater to tie the game at 72 with 2.1 seconds left and extend the game into an extra period.
TNT went on to win, 80-75, as RR Pogoy took over in the overtime period, hitting five consecutive points.
Castro went on to finish with 24 points and four assists.
“Hindi ko na job ‘yun eh. Job na ng referee ‘yun,” said Castro, when asked to comment about the reaction from fans about the last-gasp pass to Rosario.
Castro insisted the play was run to perfection as he told Rosario to be ready to take the shot.
“Alam ko naman na ako ‘yung inaasahan nila na tumira pero sabi ko kay Troy na maging ready siya. Buti na-shoot ni Troy,” said Castro.
Castro noted the importance of the TNT overtime win over Magnolia as the KaTropa enter the Fiba Basketball World Cup break.
“Sobrang malaking panalo na naman sa amin ‘yun. At least, before the break, pampadagdag sa confidence namin. Maganda ‘yung defense namin. Actually, ‘yun ang nagdadala sa panalo namin, kapag maganda depensa namin and at the same time, nagiistick kami sa game plan namin,” said Castro.
“Kapag nae-execute namin, malaki ‘yung chance namin manalo,” he added.
