TNT KaTropa will kick off its campaign in the 42nd season of the PBA without its best player.
Jayson Castro will be sitting out the team's first few games, including their opener in the Philippine Cup on Wednesday against Rain or Shine, to rest up some more after playing non-stop basketball for the last three years with offseason stints for Gilas Pilipinas.
The request for rest came from the point guard considered as the best in Asia today who hails from Bacolor, Pampanga, and TNT management was quick to grant the wishes of their top gun.
"Obviously it's overfatigue. He's been playing basketball all-year round and he definitely deserves the rest," TNT Katropa team manager Virgil Villavicencio confirmed to SPIN.ph.
Castro has been relegated by the team to the injury-reserved list since Tuesday.
The 30-year-old product of Philippine Christian University hasn't played in the team's series of tune-up games during the off-season. But he did start practicing with the team on Monday.
"Nahalata naman namin na nangayayat siya, kaya pinayagan na rin ng team na magpahinga muna," added Villavicencio.
The TNT team manager said Castro may miss two more games after Rain or Shine, but depends on whether he has fully recharged or not.
After the Elasto Painters, the Texters will face Barangay Ginebra next, followed by Blackwater.
