JAYSON Castro’s phenomenal performance in the PBA Commissioner’ Cup has been rewarded as he was named Best Player of the Conference on Wednesday.
With averages of 20.2 points on 46.6-percent shooting, 5.1 assists, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.2 steals in 33.5 minutes in 19 games so far in the midseason tournament, the Talk ‘N Text star point captured the top individual award in runaway fashion, amassing 1,164 statistical points.
Not only did Castro finish on top of the stats department, the Gilas Pilipinas standout likewise gained the nod of the media, players, and league officials to end up way ahead of Rain or Shine's Paul Lee (762), and San Miguel Beer’s June Mar Fajardo (542).
Terrence Romeo of Globalport (408) and Ginebra’s Greg Slaughter (404) rounded out the Top Five.
It is the 28-year-old Castro’s third BPC award after winning the same plum in the 2013-14 Commissioner’s Cup and the ’12-’13 Philippine Cup
On the other hand, Wayne Chism of the Elasto Painters was adjudged as the Best Import after tallying 1,160 SPs to beat Tropang Texters rival Ivan Johnson (873), Denzel Bowles of Purefoods (666), and Meralco’s Josh Davis (501).
