IT seems there’s nothing to worry as far as Alaska forward Jaypee Mendoza is concerned.

Mendoza was back on the playing floor on Friday as he joined the Aces in practice at the Hoops Dome, just two days following a horrible fall in the team’s game against Rain or Shine during the final playing date of the PBA Philippine Cup eliminations.

And based on the way he moved on the court, coach Alex Compton expects the sophomore wingman to be ready when Alaska battles Barangay Ginebra in their quarterfinal showdown on Sunday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

“Jaypee should be fine Sunday. I believe he will (play),” said the Aces mentor.

“He got on the floor today (Friday) so I don’t imagine him not being able to play Sunday.”

Mendoza landed badly during a rebound battle against Jericho Cruz with 26 seconds left in the game. Due to the impact, the back of his head hit the floor first before Cruz’s knee hit his banged-up head after the Rain or Shine guard jumped on him in a bid to force a jump ball.

Initially, the former San Beda standout couldn’t feel anything from his neck down, but eventually his condition stabilized when proper treatment was applied by Alaska’s team of doctors led by Facundo Sun inside the dugout.

Sun later said there is no serious injury suffered by the young cager. Mendoza got treatment when the Aces resumed practice on Thursday in time for the playoffs.

“Doc Sun, Gus Vargas, and Mike Braga have all been doing a great job of taking care of Jaypee,” said Compton. “We really appreciate all of the support and concern, but he will be fine.”

Alaska finished the eliminations as the No. 2 seeded team and owns a twice-to-beat advantage against seventh seed Barangay Ginebra.
