JAYJAY Helterbrand simply won’t miss this most important game of Barangay Ginebra in the PBA Philippine Cup, showing up at the Smart Araneta Coliseum to support the Kings in a sudden-death match against the Magnolia Hotshots for the final semifinal berth on Wednesday night,
The former league MVP was in the company of legendary Barangay Ginebra chieftain Robert Jaworski Sr. for the Game 3 of the quarterfinals series.
“Siyempre I’m here to support the guys you know, it’s a big game for them,” he said.
And guess who personally invited him to be in the game?
“Of course, Mark (Caguioa),” he said of his well-known bosom buddy. “Mark said, ‘Come on man, watch the game.’”
The retired Ginebra guard actually shot two birds with one stone as he was also at the Big Dome to promote the Ginebra San Miguel 3x3 Tatluhan basketball tournament this Sunday at Robinson’s Ermita.
But first and foremost, it’s the morale support to the Kings which is what Helterbrand came for.
Unfortunately, Ginebra fell short and lost, 85-72, to fall short of a berth in the Final Four.
Whatever happened, Helterbrand said he’s always back his fallen comrades.
“Never-say-die man. I’m here to support my brothers any which I can,” he said.
