Jarrid Famous would gladly trade monster numbers for an elusive win for Blackwater

JARRID Famous would gladly trade his impressive individual numbers for a victory that remained elusive for Blackwater again on Sunday as the team suffered a 93-74 beating at the hands of Alaska in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

The Elite import stuffed the stats sheet again, putting up 27 points, 21 rebounds, three blocks, and one assist, but couldn't keep his team from reeling to a third straight loss.

“It sucks, man,” Famous said. “Numbers don’t really mean something because at the end of the day, I can have whatever I can statistically, but if we don’t win, people won’t acknowledge you. I don’t really look at it as a personal achievement.”

“I gotta find another way, more effort to help my team win. Numbers are not accumulated to wins,” he added.

Asked if his local teammates need to step up after only Poy Erram scored in double-digits among them, Famous said it's his team’s effort as a unit that needs to improve.

“I think we all need to step up,” the veteran PBA import said. “It’s a collective effort. Basketball is a team effort. There’s no import vs locals, locals vs imports. The five people who show up on the court have to do the right thing and play hard for the time they are there. We just had some lapses, too many turnovers, forced shots that led to fastbreaks.”

“I try to stay positive because those are things we can fix,” he added. “We were down by 26 and we cut it down to eight. That shows we have it. We just have to turn it on the whole 48 minutes. Not 10 minutes here, 12 minutes there, five minutes here.”

And Famous believes is only takes one win for their fortunes to turn around.

“It only takes one game for things to change,” the 6-foot-10 slotman said ahead of their game against Wednesday against GlobalPort. “I’ve been with teams that had rough starts. You win one game, then gets your morale high, then guess what, we started clicking and it could lead to winning streak.”

“We gotta keep our head up,” he added. “Nobody will feel sorry for us. You know what I mean. We have to do what we have to do.”
