NORTHPORT coach Pido Jarencio assured on Wednesday that Christian Standhardinger will have a bigger role in his new team.
“Basta look forward ka, be positive, iba ang role mo dito,” said Jarencio, recalling his words for Standhardinger after he attended his first NorthPort practice after the trade from San Miguel in exchange for Mo Tautuaa.
Standhardinger was only averaging 3.5 points and 4.0 rebounds in 12.78 minutes for San Miguel in the ongoing PBAGovernors' Cup while playing behind five-time MVP June Mar Fajardo before he was traded.
Tautuaa was posting far better numbers of 11.3 points and 8.8 rebounds for NorthPort in a career resurgence in the same conference.
Asked why they gave away an in-form player like Tautuaa, Jarencio explained NorthPort needs a bigger presence in the 6-foot-8 Standhardinger that can battle the likes of Fajardo and Greg Slaughter inside the lane.
Jarencio said the trade was a win-win for both teams as San Miguel also needs a player in the mold of Tautuaa, who can score from both inside and out.
Jarencio assured the Fil-German will have more playing time with NorthPort.
“Wala ka kapalitan dito. Minimum mo dito, 35 minutes per game. Sabi ko sa kanya, balik mo ang confidence mo and stay in shape. Mag-iiba role niya dito,” Jarencio said.
