NORTHPORT coach Pido Jarencio has one piece of advice for Robert Bolick if the rookie wants to have a long, successful PBA career.
“Sinabi ko naman sa kanya, ‘Robert, kailangan maging aggressive ka na on both offense and defense. Kasi medyo nagre-relax ka eh. Sabi ko sa kanya, this is not the NCAA. PBA ‘to. Kailangan makipagpalitan ka ng mukha," Jarencio said.
“Kaya ‘wag ka matakot. Guwapo ka naman eh kaya okay lang na makipagpalitan ka ng mukha,” Jarencio added with a smile.
The third pick overall in the last PBA draft had a debut to remember when he notched 26 points in his first game against Blackwater, but has since faded out of the limelight with unimpressive and largely inconsistent play.
That was until Wednesday night when the former San Beda star exploded for 24 points in NorthPort’s 100-97 win over Barangay Ginebra.
Jarencio had a 15-year playing career in the PBA, most notably with Barangay Ginebra, before becoming a coach. He believes that with the right attitude, Bolick has what it takes to have the same career.
“Basta kailangan maging aggressive ka. Ang sikreto sa PBA, maging aggressive ka. Kailangan makita nila na palaban ka, na may diskarte ka. Hindi ‘yung naghe-hesitate ka dito. Kapag ganyan ka, hindi ka tatagal,” said Jarencio.
