JAPETH Aguilar is set to fly back to Chicago to rejoin his family after declining an offer to be a practice player for NBA D-League Santa Cruz Warriors, according to his Philippine-based agent.

Player-agent Marvin Espiritu said his 6-9 ward will be rejoining his family sometime between November 30 and December 3 before deciding on whether to rebuild his PBA career with Talk ’N Text or explore options of playing overseas after failing to make the Warriors’ final roster in the NBA Developmental League.

“Nag-usap kami online ni Japeth nung Sunday and basically, sa pagbalik niya sa Chicago, pinapakita niya lang dun na di na niya tatanggapin yung offer sa kanya na practice player ng Santa Cruz. May option din naman siya maglaro sa China or sa Australia, though at this point, gusto niya pag-usapan with his family sa Chicago kung ano ang magiging decision niya,” Espiritu relayed to Spin.ph.

One thing sure, Aguilar is itching to go back and play competitive basketball, according to Espiritu.

While China and Australia are two good options to explore, Espiritu mentioned that the Philippines may still be the best possible destination at this point of his career considering the maximum salary he’s expected to receive should he decide to re-sign with Talk ’N Text.

“Kung dito (PBA) naman kasi siya pupunta, alam na niya paano siya gagamitin dito kasi nakapaglaro na siya sa Talk ’N Text.  Gusto na daw niya actually mag-explode sa laro, especially with the experience he gained from the exposure playing with big players sa US,” Espiritu said.

Talk ’N Text team manager Aboy Castro said in a recent interview with Spin.ph that their contract offer to Aguilar is still on the table.

The former Ateneo Blue Eagle and Western Kentucky Hilltopper has enough time to decide on the contract offer from Talk ’N Text or not, with December 10 set as the deadline for teams to finalize their rosters.

The 25-year-old Aguilar, son of former Ginebra player Peter Aguilar, was Santa Cruz’s 13th pick in the seventh round — and 109th overall in the NBA D-League draft early this month.

Should he decide to resume his PBA career with Talk ’N Text, he will be reunited with Norman Black, who was his college coach at Ateneo.

Last season, Aguilar averaged 6.58 points, 4.12 rebounds and 1.35 blocks in 52 games for the Tropang Texters.
