AFTER agreeing to be a practice player of the Santa Cruz Warriors, Japeth Aguilar is still hoping, and waiting, to receive a call from any of the NBA Developmental League teams one day.
The 6-9 Aguilar has agreed to be a practice player for the Santa Cruz Warriors, the same team that had drafted him 109th overall in last month's NBA D-League draft which later dropped him days before the season.
According to his Philippine-based agent Marvin Espiritu, Aguilar wants to take advantage of the opportunity to sharpen his game while playing against top players in the Warriors practice while waiting for possible offers from other teams.
Practice players in the D-League are not tied down by contracts and can sign with other teams, Espiritu added.
“Ang sabi niya (Japeth) sa akin, practice player siya pero anytime, puwede siya umalis. Kasi gusto lang naman daw niya maki-practice sa Santa Cruz para mag-improve pa,” Espiritu told Spin.ph.
Espiritu said his client is taking his time and exhausting all possible options in the United States since he feels it's too late to sign up for a team in the PBA with the Philippine Cup nearing the playoffs.
The deadline for the signing of players in the Philippine Cup is December 10.
“Wala pa siya talagang time table kelan siya babalik. And siyempre, gitna na rin ng conference sa PBA so mahihirapan din siya kung ngayon babalik. Kaya pinaga-aaralan niya pa talaga ang options,” Espiritu said.
