A SAN Miguel Corp. official assured that they won't stand in the way of Japeth Aguilar's stint with Gilas Pilipinas after the athletic big man's move to Barangay Ginebra in a multi-team trade completed on Tuesday.
Ginebra has already loaned point guard LA Tenorio to Gilas under the terms of a memorandum of agreement requiring PBA teams to lend one player each to the national team.
Aguilar was made available to Chot Reyes' pool by former team Globalport and SMC head of basketball operations Robert Non assured that won't change now that the former Ateneo player is with Ginebra.
“Andun na siya eh, part na siya ng (Gilas) team, bakit pa namin siya babawiin,” Non, also the league chairman, told Spin.ph. “It just so happened na natrade siya sa amin di ba?”
The trade that saw Aguilar joining Ginebra in exchange for rookie Yousif Taha and a 2013 first-round pick went down while the enigmatic big man is in Lithuania for a training camp with Gilas Pilipinas.
He is expected to make Reyes' final 12-man lineup for the Fiba-Asia Men's Basketball Championship which the country is hosting from August 1-11.
