JAPETH Aguilar rued his late miscues that almost cost Barangay Ginebra dearly in its 91-84 win over Talk ‘N Text in the last elimination round playdate of the PBA Philippine Cup on Sunday night.
Apart from committing two costly turnovers, the athletic forward also botched a wide-open transition layup inside the last two minutes when the Gin Kings were up by just four and the Tropang Texters in the middle of a comeback from 18 points down.
Aguilar said he thought about going for a dunk, but insisted he didn’t have the legs to do so.
“Inisip ko syempre (na i-dunk), kaso medyo pagod na rin yung legs ko ‘nun,” the 6-foot-9 beanpole said in a short chat with Spin.ph after the game.
“But it’s still not an excuse,” he was quick to add. “Nangyayari lang talaga 'yun.”
Aguilar wasted little time in making up for the blunder as he knocked down two charities with six second left that put score out of reach.
“When I had the opportunity to redeem myself, binawi ko na lang sa free throws,” said the Gin Kings star, who finished with 17 points, seven boards, three blocks, two assists, and one steal in 32 minutes. “We treated it as a playoff game.”
