JAPETH Aguilar refused to dwell on Barangay Ginebra teammate Mark Caguioa’s series of tweets last week when the Gin Kings star hit out at “soft, lazy” teammates after the team’s PBA Commissioner’s Cup quarterfinal loss to Talk ‘N Text.
“I wasn’t bothered by it,” the athletic forward insisted in a chat with Spin.ph on Monday when they returned to practice - Ginebra's first under Jeff Cariaso as new head coach.
“Medyo nag-react lang dad (Peter) ko, pero karapatan ni Mark ‘yun,” Aguilar added. “Everyone really struggled last conference.”
After averaging a double-double of 18.8 points and 10 boards in the elimination round of the Philippine Cup where he emerged a Best Player of the Conference candidate, Aguilar normed just 8.2 points, seven rebounds, and 1.5 blocks in the import-spiced tournament.
Aguilar insisted he has no ill feelings toward Caguioa. In fact, the two along with teammates LA Tenorio, Jayjay Helterbrand, Chris Ellis, and Dylan Ababou were together for a short vacation in Boracay and Aguilar said they didn’t talk about basketball.
Helterbrand said he just used the break to rest and move on.
“I didn’t really reflect on it (Commissioner’s Cup). I just forgot about it,” the longtime Ginebra point guard said. “We have a new beginning. I’m just trying to forget all the negative things and just focus on the other stuff that’s ahead of us.”
