JAPETH Aguilar showed no signs of slowing down as he powered Ginebra to the semifinals of the PBA Philippine Cup with a 99-91 win over Rain or Shine on Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Aguilar finished with 27 points, 12 rebounds, three steals and three blocks to tow the Gin Kings to a date with top seed San Miguel in the best-of-seven semis duel.
What's impressive is Aguilar seems to show little effects of lower back spasms that has been bothering him since last week.
For Aguilar, he's just doing all it takes to get the victory.
"I just want to win talaga kanina. I want to move on to the semifinals and we all know na hindi madali especially against Rain or Shine," said Aguilar.
"Everyone stepped up actually. Jervy Cruz, Sol [Mercado] is playing really well, LA [Tenorio], Scottie [Thompson] is getting all the rebounds," he added.
The good news for Ginebra fans is that Aguilar is slowly recovering, something that could be a huge boost with the uncertainty surrounding Greg Slaughter's health heading to the Final Four.
"I take it day by day going therapy hanggang sa umokay siya at maka-recover ako," said Aguilar.
"It feels good na. There’s little stiffness after game, after practice but once nakapahinga na ako, naka-recover na ako," he added.
Now that they've finally finished off the Elasto Painters, the Gin Kings turn their focus on the Beermen and Aguilar knows that it's only gonna get tougher now.
"Earlier in the dugout sinabi ni coach Tim, 'It’s Mount Everest that we’re going to climb.' Even sila Raymond (Aguilar) and sila Prince (Caperal), he told them to be ready. So we’re trying to prepare na talaga."
