Jansen Rios escapes serious injury after hyperextending knee

JANSEN Rios escaped a serious injury after he got hurt in Game 5 of the PBA 50th Season Philippine Cup.

The Meralco player was diagnosed with a hyperextended right knee following an MRI, and will need to rest for six to eight weeks.

Meralco coach Luigi Trillo said Rios will not require surgery on his right knee.

"All ligaments intact. No surgery needed," said Trillo on Saturday.

With the bit of good news, Rios is expected to come back and play for Meralco next conference once the injury is healed.

Rios was writhing in pain when he got the injury while defending Jordan Heading’s lay-up attempt. He was taken out of the court in a wheel chair, but was able to walk on his own on his way out of the Smart-Araneta Coliseum with a knee protector in place.
