JAMER Jamito and Gabby Espinas are both turning heads over at Meralco not with their game but with their looks.

The two back-up players have been sporting new hairstyles which naturally, has been attracting quite an attention in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

Jamito showed at the Smart Araneta Coliseum for the Bolts’ game against Columbian Dyip with a curly hair, while Espinas had his Afro-styled.

And they did it not for fashion statement.

Jamito said he’s trying to emulate Barangay Ginebra teammate Japeth Aguilar’s hairdo even as Espinas said he decided to let his hair grow when he finally had a baby daughter.

“Ginagaya ko si Japeth, baka maging kasing-laro ko rin siya,” said Jamito with a chuckle.

“Kasi sabi ni Japeth, sa buhok niya lang nai-express yung sarili niya. And ganun din ako.”

“Yung pang-apat ko (babae), kasi tatlong lalaki yung anak ko. So nung pang-apat, sabi ko mag-change naman ako ng looks,” said Espinas, who, for years, had been known for sporting a bald or semi-bald look.

It’s the first time Jamito tried wearing a curly hair, which he said took about one and a half hours to be treated.

Unlike Jamer, Espinas’ locks are all natural, which he patiently grew for about a year now.

“Matagal lang humaba pero kumakapal siya,” said the 37-year-old veteran forward, a native of Olongapo City.

While it may not look shiny, Espinas’ hair is light and soft. Better believe it, it’s easy to manage, too.

“Maganda nga siya kasi makikita mo na siyang basa kapag may sabon. Pag wala ng sabon, tuyo na ulit siya,” said Espinas. “Kaya masarap din siyang alagaan.”

Jamito added his curled hair is good for six months, which he intends to let grow a bit longer.

“Pahahabain ko pa siya, para talagang Japeth,” he said.

And what did his Meralco teammates told him when he attended practice for the first time with his new looks?
