ADDITIONAL help is coming for Barangay Ginebra in its PBA Commissioner’s Cup campaign.
Coach Tim Cone disclosed the possible return of big men Jamie Malonzo and Isaac Go in the active roster of the Kings by the start of the year 2025.
As for another injured player in guard Jeremiah Gray, the Ginebra mentor said there’s still no clear date on his comeback.
“We’re hoping sometime after Christmas for Jamie, and sometime maybe in mid-January for Isaac,” said Cone. “Still no timetable for Maiah.”
Malonzo has not seen action so far for Season 49, as he recovers from a calf surgery following the injury he suffered in last season’s Philippine Cup.
Go, meanwhile, suffered a foot injury early in the season-opening Governors’ Cup, while Gray has been in the inactive list for quite a while now and has missed the entire Season 48 and early part of Season 49 due to a complicated right knee injury he sustained during PBA On Tour.
“Those are our target dates for those guys,” said Cone.
Ginebra going all-in, still
The returns of Malonzo and Go – and Gray later on – are expected to further boost the Ginebra line-up that just recently got an added major piece in big man Troy Rosario.
Even in the absence of the three players, the Gin Kings so far are off to a good start in the conference, notching a second straight win in three days with a 94-72 win over Phoenix Friday night at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
“We’re still waiting for Jamie, Isaac, and Maiah to get back. And they will help,” said Cone.
