JAMIE Malonzo is disappointed that he won't be around for Barangay Ginebra when it plays its most important game of PBA Season 48.

Still recovering from calf surgery, the high-leaping Fil-Am is out for the remainder of the season and will have to watch again from the sidelines when the Kings and Meralco Bolts duke it out for one last time for the right to face reigning champion San Miguel in the Philippine Cup Finals.

Malonzo showed up at the Smart Araneta Coliseum still wearing a walking boot during Game 6 of the semifinals series which Meralco won, 86-81, to forge the sudden-death on Friday at the FPJ Arena in San Jose, Batangas.

The Gilas Pilipinas stalwart admitted feeling helpless as the Kings try to avoid an end to their season.

“I like Game 7, (but) a little bit frustrated,” he said when asked how he feels not suiting up for Ginebra as it tries to keep its season going. “But it’s all good.”

Four more weeks in a walking boot

“Didn’t want to go to a Game 7, but hopefully we can get them,” added Malonzo. “The guys are doing their best and hopefully they’ll pull it off in Batangas.”

Malonzo said he’ll be wearing the walking boot for the next four weeks before he begins his therapy on the injured calf.

“It’s one those things Doc (George) Canlas said be patient on. And he’s doing a good job for me. He said I have to be patient for four weeks wearing the boot. After that I would do therapy time,” added the Fil-Am forward.

Malonzo went down with what he said was his first major injury during Ginebra’s 95-88 win over Northport in the eliminations. He averaged 14.1 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 3.1 assists prior to suffering the injury.
