JAMES Yap is set to miss a couple of games for Rain or Shine including Wednesday’s PBA Commissioner’s Cup showdown against erstwhile leader NorthPort due to a groin injury.

Coach Caloy Garcia said the veteran wingman has been advised to rest in order not to aggravate the injury he suffered in the Elasto Painters’ 89-82 win over Phoenix at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

The team is heading to its 4:30 p.m. encounter with the Batang Pier (5-1) at the Mall of Asia Arena riding high on a two-game winning streak that evened its record at 2-2.

Unfortunately, it was in its last game against the Fuel Masters when Yap injured his groin early in the third quarter.

“Sabi niya sa akin against NorthPort kung puwede pahinga na lang muna siya kasi may nararamdaman pa siya,” Garcia said.

The two-time MVP joins the Elasto Painters in their shootaround during practice but doesn’t do scrimmages and 5x5 plays.

“Nakakapag-shooting siya pero he can’t do anything nga beside that,” said Garcia.

“Tsaka kailangan daw talaga pahinga,” added Garcia.

Yap told Garcia the he might suit up in Rain or Shine’s next game against Columbian Dyip on Sunday at Batangas City.

“Pero hindi pa rin daw sure na makakalaro siya depende pa rin sa nararamdaman niya,” said the Elasto Painters mentor.

“I just told him na huwag niya na lang munang pilitin.”
