JAMES Yap showed he’s hardly affected by personal issues surrounding him as he delivered on both ends to help Rain or Shine come away with a 108-89 win over Ginebra in their PBA Commissioner’s Cup matchup on Sunday night.
A fodder for showbiz news recently after ex-wife Kris Aquino blasted him for his birthday message to their son, Bimby, Yap prefered making sports headlines instead by contributing 13 points, highlighted by three triples, while playing solid defense with two steals in 20 minutes off the bench.
“Kasi basketball kailangan focused talaga eh, yun yung nagdadala.
“Nakaka-shoot pa rin ako,” the two-time MVP continued with a smile.
Yap scored seven of his output in the final frame where the E-Painters outscored the Gin Kings, 33-25, to maintain a double-digit cushion until the final buzzer.
But the 36-year-old cager also flashed his improved defense by making a handful of stops that impressed coach Caloy Garcia.
“James has been working hard on his shots every day, but one thing that’s good today is he played excellent defense today,” Garcia said. “He was the one na kumbaga, siya naghe-help when the import was having a problem on the other side.”
