VETERAN James Yap suffered a groin injury that could sideline him anew in the PBA Governors Cup.
The two-time MVP hurt his groin after hitting a basket against Magnolia import Romeo Travis in the second quarter of the game at the Mall of Asia Arena.
He never made it back to the match which the defending champions Hotshots won, 69-68.
"Parang may pumitik after he made that basket against Romeo Travis," said Rain or Shine coach Caloy Garcia.
Yap spent the rest of the game on the bench and finished with six points and six rebounds in 10 minutes of play.
A groin injury kept the 37-year'old Yap out for five games and the rest of the playoffs during the last Commissioner's Cup.
Garcia said he doesn't know the extent of the injury this time.
"The last time he had a groin injury medyo tumagal. I don't how bad it is today. But halftime pa lang sinabihan na ako na hindi na raw niya kaya kasi masakit daw," said the Rain or Shine coach.
"So we didn't want to gamble on that."
Yap will undergo a check-up on the injury on Saturday.
