JAMES Yap will remain in the sidelines for Rain or Shine in the 2019 PBA Commissioner's Cup quarterfinals.
The two-time PBA MVP bared the development to SPIN.ph as his groin injury has forced him to sit out the Elasto Painters' final five games in the eliminations.
"Nakaka-sad at nakaka-bad trip, pero wala tayong magagawa," he said on Wednesday after the team's practice at Meralco Gym.
Yap has played in only six games in the midseason conference, averaging 7.8 points on a 30-percent shooting from the field, on top of 2.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists in his 19.0 minutes of play.
He last played in June 23 in Rain or Shine's 88-86 victory over Columbian in Batangas.
Rain or Shine went 2-3 in the stretch of games Yap missed, falling from an even 3-3 slate to now at 5-6. It sits idle, awaiting for the final outcome of the games for its placing in the playoffs.
Tough as it was for Yap to remain on the shelf, he said that he doesn't really want to force his recovery, and at the same time, ruin the current groove of the team.
Baka mamaya, maging worse pa," he said.
Yap does maintain his confidence on the Elasto Painters' luck in the quarterfinals as he hopes to finally be back in action if the team gets through to the semifinals.
"I'm sure ready naman sila at excited sila papasok ng playoffs," he said.
