JAMES Yap said he doesn’t hold any grudge against coach Caloy Garcia after being rebuffed by the Rain or Shine coach in favor of Beau Belga in the final play of the team’s 98-94 loss against KIA in the PBA Philippine Cup last week.

The incident wasn't necessarily a snub but only stemmed from a little confusion on the team’s substitutions during a 30-second timeout, Yap explained.

The short video showed Yap asking Garcia while the Elasto Painters’ mentor was mapping out a play during huddle, ‘Coach, saan ako?’ To which Garcia replied, ‘Hindi ikaw (ang papasok), si Bo.’

“Hindi (naman),” said the two-time league MVP when asked if he resented the act of Garcia which was caught on television. “Diskarte niya yun.

Yap clarified only one player can be substituted during a 30-second timeout. Belga was the first one to be notified by the coaching staff, although the two-time league MVP was likewise told to be ready.

Yap was quick to put the loss – and the ‘episode’ – behind him as he came up prepared against the Road Warriors, finishing with 12 points for his third straight double-digit output this conference, while going 4-of-8 from the field.

Yap hinted the loss pricked the pride of the Elasto Painters, who went went back up to .500 (3-3) following the win over the Road Warriors.

So siyempre yung morale ng team medyo mababa,” he said.“So sa practice lahat seryoso, siyempre masakit.”
