JAMES Yap flashed his deadly form in the endgame as Rain or Shine came storming back from 14-point down to deny NorthPort, 107-100, on Friday night in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Yap scored 19 points behind a 6-of-9 clip from three-point land, none bigger than his step-back trey over Paolo Taha with 2:49 left in the game that gave the Elastopainters the lead for good, 102-100.
Rain or Shine has now won three straight games to improve to 5-1 (win-loss), good for second place behind unbeaten Phoenix Pulse (5-0).
Beau Belga contributed 19 points and seven assists while running Rain or Shine's plays from the post and Norbert Torres added 16 points in another fine performance for the former La Salle big man.
Rain or Shine coach Caloy Garcia mentioned Mark Borboran as the unsung hero for the game after he contributed six points and four rebounds in nine minutes of play.
“It was a hard win for us. Hard-earned win,” said Garcia. “When we put in Mark Borboran, it changed the complexion of the game. Hindi sila naka-adjust doon. We kept it and fought back until the end of the game.”
The loss spoiled the big games of Stanley Pringle and Sean Anthony. Pringle had 34 points and seven rebounds, while Anthony had 22 points and seven rebounds for NorthPort.
