JAMES Yap had the last laugh against Calvin Abueva as Purefoods swept Alaska in their best-of-three PBA Commissioners’ Cup quarterfinal series with a 94-89 victory in Game Two on Sunday.
Abueva, who had guaranteed a win after the Aces bowed to the Hotshots, 120-86, in the opener, appeared to intentionally hit Yap at the back in one loose ball scramble early in the fourth quarter that left the Hotshots superstar taking a seat in the front row.
But Yap was glad Abueva failed to fulfill his promise.
“Sorry na lang kay Calvin,” Yap told Spin.ph.
The former league MVP also shrugged off the altercation with Abueva, even if the two had a history of animosity in the early years of the Alaska bruiser's career.
“Kasama sa laro ‘yun eh. Buti na lang matigas 'yung katawan ko," he said with a smile in a separate interview with scribes, before turning serious.
“Ganun naman talaga pag eh kasi walang gusto magpatalo. Gagawin lahat,” added the 11-year league veteran, who chipped in 11 points, three boards, two assists, and one block in 26 minutes. “Okay lang ‘yun. Walang problema.”
Abueva could not be reached for comment as of posting time.
