IMPORT James Mays and rookie Ian Sangalang dealt the knockout blows in the payoff quarter as San Mig Super Coffee trounced a disoriented Barangay Ginebra side, 90-80 for its second straight win in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The 6-foot-8 Mays held his own against the taller Ginebra frontline, coming away with ferocity on both ends of the floor after scoring 29 points and grabbing 29 rebounds during the first game between the two rival teams since their epic Game Seven do-or-die match in the Philippine Cup semifinals.

“James (Mays) was a monster on the boards, monster off the hustle. His activity level was wow, he’s Mr. Everywhere,” said a beaming San Mig coach Tim Cone in describing his energetic prized import.

Mays, who played for Springfield Armor in the NBA Development League last year, joined forces with Sangalang as the two grabbed loose balls and scored at every given opportunity that frustrated the listless Kings in the end.
