JAMES Martinez returns to the PBA after 13 years, signing with Titan Ultra just in time for the 50th Season Philippine Cup.
Martinez inked a deal with the Giant Risers, more than a decade since his first and only PBA stint to date when he saw action for Powerade during the 2011-12 season.
Incidentally, Martinez’s lone season in the league was for Powerade before the franchise was purchased by GlobalPort/NorthPort. Years later, the Batang Pier was sold to Pureblends Corporation, which owns the Titan Ultra brand and will debut in the golden season of the league.
After his stint with Powerade, the former University of the East standout bounced around in different leagues locally, particularly in the PBA D-League and MPBL, and even internationally, with Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam.
Team owner Bryann Calantoc and team manager Aldriene Anglim were present in the contract signing. Terms were not disclosed as of posting time.
The Giant Risers face Meralco in their first-ever PBA game under their new name on Wednesday at the Ynares Center-Antipolo during the second playdate of the All-Filipino conference.
