JAMES Martinez and Arvie Bringas are among a couple of players who are vying for a spot at NorthPort - or Pureblends - in the coming 50th season of the PBA.
Martinez and Bringas were spotted during the Batang Pier’s tune-up game against Phoenix on Tuesday, with head coach Johnedel Cardel saying they are considering those players to fill up a couple more spots on the team.
“Fifteen players ang lineup, pero tinitignan pa rin sila. Maybe may mga mangyayari pa. We will see before the opening,” said Cardel.
Martinez is looking to return to the PBA after 13 years when he played in his first and only season with Powerade during the 2011-12 campaign. Known for his outside shooting, the former University of the East standout has been playing with different teams and leagues ever since.
Arvie's attitude era
Bringas, on the other hand, hasn’t played in the PBA following his collegiate career with Far Eastern University. The 35-year-old was picked by Kia No. 36 overall in the 2017 PBA Draft, but was left unsigned.

Bringas gained a reputation as a bruising forward who also got entangled in controversy when he was caught spitting at Ateneo’s Nico Salva during a game in the UAAP.
With that incident already way behind him, Bringas will now look to make it to the PBA.
Bringas is currently playing for the Valenzuela Classic in the MPBL and is averaging 10.8 points and 6.9 rebounds through 11 games.
