Ivan Johnson fires back, says Yeng Guiao 'too old' to be making 'foolish' comments

    Apr 27, 2015

IVAN Johnson has fired back at Yeng Guiao, calling the Rain or Shine coach “too old” to be making such “foolish” comments about him in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals.

In a rare interview granted to Spin.ph, the Talk ‘N Text import has broken his silence after Guiao has been hitting out at him since Game One of the series for his antics.

“That’s foolishness, man,” Johnson said at the end of the Tropang Texters' practice on Monday afternoon at the Hoops Center in Mandaluyong City. “He’s too old for all that.

“I’m a grown man out here,” the former NBA player added. “Just play ball. That’s what I’m here for. That’s what I came to do. And that’s what I’m going to do to get to the championship.”

Guiao stepped up his tirade against the controversial import on Sunday after Game Six, calling Johnson “mentally unstable” and a “menace” for what he thought were intentional hits on Painters guards Paul Lee and Chris Tiu.

Johnson said he hasn’t read about that or any of Guiao’s comments against him, getting the news only from people around him.

“Mostly people tell me about what he’s talking about. I don’t see,” the 6-foot-8 forward said. “I don’t worry about it. It’s a small thing to a giant.”

Johnson also shrugged off his sub-par showing in Game Six where he contributed a conference-low six points on 2-of-9 shooting and six boards in 32 minutes.

“Even Michael Jordan had worse games, you know what I’m saying? It happens,” the former Atlanta Hawk said. “You just got to roll with the punches.”

Going to do-or-die Game Seven, Talk 'N Text knows exactly what do do, assured Johnson.

“We know what we have to do,” he added. “We made a lot of mental mistakes and if we clean up our own mistakes, we’re not even worried about what they have going to do. We just got to keep playing, keep our head right, and we’ll come out with the win.”
