MUCH to no one's surprise, Isaac Go was the top overall pick and went to Columbian Dyip in the 2019 PBA Rookie Draft on Sunday at Robinsons' Ermita in Manila.
The 23-year-old slotman was expectedly the head of the 2019 class, the former Ateneo slotman being called first up the stage for the special Gilas Pilipinas round.
The selection made him the fifth player from Ateneo to be tabbed at No. 1, following Alex Araneta (1991), Rich Alvarez (2004), Nonoy Baclao (2010), and Greg Slaughter (2013).
He, however, won't be able to start his PBA career just yet as he will be lent to the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) as part of the core for the Gilas training pool in preparation for the 2023 Fiba World Cup.
Blackwater went with two-time Cesafi MVP Rey Suerte at second, while NLEX took Ateneo guard Matt Nieto at third.
Capping off the special Gilas round were San Sebastian super scorer Allyn Bulanadi going to Alaska at No. 4 and Ateneo captain Mike Nieto tabbed by Rain or Shine at fifth overall.
