PHLIPPINE National Police chief Ronald ‘Bato’ Dela Rosa is proving to be a lucky charm for Barangay Ginebra.
With the charismatic general cheering his favorite team from ringside Sunday night, the Kings survived an early Star assault and proceeded to hack out a 91-67 win to send their PBA Philippine Cup semifinal series to a winner-take-all Game Seven.
The 54-year-old police official was all smiles by the end of Game Six after the league’s most popular ballclub lived for another day and tied the series at three-games apiece before a roaring crowd of 18,062 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Does he really bring luck to Ginebra?
“Baka nga,” he told SPIN.ph said in between hearty laughs. “Tama yun.”
The die-hard Ginebra fan recalled watching Game Five of the Governors Cup Finals between Ginebra and Meralco last year, which the Kings won on their way to winning the championship and ending an eight-year title drought.
“Two-two yun tapos nanalo, hanggang nag-champion,” he recalled. “Gusto ko lang talaga suportahan yung Ginebra. Ngayon baka sakali uli.”
The Kings get one more shot at advancing to the finals with the sudden-death game against the Hotshots set this Tuesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
For Ginebra's sake, fans sure hope 'Bato' is there.
