JAY Washington remains part of the Rain or Shine as a reserve player, head coach Caloy Garcia said on Friday.
The two-time PBA Best Player of the Conference was noticeably not on the opening-day roster of the Elastopainters, although Washington was with the team when it opened the season against NLEX on Friday at the Cuneta Astrodome.
“Nasa reserve siya. Wala siya sa lineup,” Garcia said.
Garcia explained he opted not to include Washington in the lineup since he was the last to arrive from the United States during the holidays when the Elastopainters went to Bahrain to play a series of games.
“We actually played in Bahrain with 13 players then dumating si Gabe (Norwood) and Maverick (Ahanmisi). J-Wash was the last to arrive from the States so technically, ang ginawa ko sa pagpili sa lineup is, the people who worked hard during the offseason,” said Garcia.
Garcia, though, made it clear that the 37-year-old Fil-Am remains with the team and can regain his spot in the roster.
“If you noticed, Dexter Maiquez is in the lineup. Pampabawi ko rin sa kanila because during December, they were the ones who were working hard. If J-Wash wants to come back, he just have to work hard. Babawi lang,” said Garcia.
