BEAU Belga's vastly improved play has attracted a lot of interest from rival teams, but Rain or Shine insists it has no plans of trading its wide-bodied slotman.

“Syempre, maganda ang nilalaro lately ni Beau. Impressive din ang ipinapakita niyang disiplina sa sarili … Marami talagang magkaka-interes sa kanya,” said Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao.

“Pero sa ngayon, hindi naming siya ite-trade. Wala kaming balak,” added the Pampanga congressman.

Elasto Painters team manager Boy Lapid has confirmed to Spin.ph that at the end of the Commissioner’s Cup alone, no less than three teams have inquired if Belga will be made available in a possible trade.

“Kinakausap nga nila kami. Nagpaparamdam na. Pero hindi namin sineseryoso, kasi hindi naman kami interesado i-trade si Beau,” said Lapid. “Ginto na ang halaga niyan.”

Lapid facilitated the trade that brought Belga to Rain or Shine from Meralco two years ago in three-team deal that also involved Air 21.

The Painters essentially got the Sorsogon cager in exchange for Jay-R Reyes and a 2014 draft pick in the complex trade that also involved Sol Mercado, Ronjay Buenafe, Ronnie Matias and Paolo Bugia and future picks.

Rain or Shine team co-owner Raymund Yu said Belga’s skills and determination to raise his game will surely make him an attractive proposition for teams eager to push for trades in the future.

“Masipag kasi si Beau saka may mga intangibles siya na very effective,” said Yu. “He is agile for his size, he can shoot long-range jumpers at kaya niyang inisin ang kalaban naturally.”

“Nakakasar si Belga pag kalaban mo, di ba? Kaya niyang pikunin ang kalaban. Yun ang talent niya na hindi mo maituturo sa isang player,” added Yu, longtime basketball fan.

Belga, the last cut in the Gilas Pilipinas squad that will compete in next month's Fiba-Asia championships, bared that he will be happy at Rain or Shine for as long as his mentor and coach wants him in the team.

“Ang dalas ko namang malagay sa trade rumor, pero hangga’t gusto ako ni coach Yeng, masaya ako,” said the 225-lb wingman, who has blossomed under Guiao's wings.

“Isa si coach sa mga dahilan kung bakit andito ako ngayon sa kung nasaan man ako.”
