ALASKA'S 107-79 rout of Globalport Saturday night was more than enough to ease the sting of the spate of injuries hounding the Aces early in their PBA Commissioner’s Cup campaign.
Dondon Hontiveros and Vic Manuel sat out the game against the Batang Pier as they try to recover from their respective injuries that will keep them out of the active roster for a few more games.
Manuel is currently nursing a sprain, while Hontiveros has a slight tear on his meniscus.
“Ang daming injuries,” quipped team manager and alternate board of governor Dickie Bachmann to SPIN.ph.
Jayvee Casio also didn't play against Globalport due to ankle sprain, although he was in uniform as he watched the action at the Alaska bench
Manuel suffered the sprain during the Aces' game against Mahindra in the last Philippine Cup. He played through it all the way to the playoffs that further aggravated the injury.
"He kept on spraining the ankle all over again," said coach Alex Compton after the game. "So we decided to rest him for a while to help heal the injury."
Compton said he expects 'The Muscle Man" to return to action by mid-April.
The good news, according to Hontiveros, is that he’s not required to undergo surgery.
“Ongoing yung rehab ko right now, no operation needed,” he said. “Siguro two more weeks pa,” he said of his possible return to action for the Aces.
Manuel and Hontiveros join big man Noy Baclao (knee) in the team’s injury list.
