BIG man Jay Washington is expected to miss Golablport’s final two games in the eliminations of the PLDT myDSL-PBA Philippine Cup after partially tearing his plantar fascia on his right foot during the team’s 87-98 loss to Petron on Friday night.
The injury of the 6-foot-7 Washington comes as a major blow for the young franchise, which is fighting for a playoff spot in the All-Filipino Cup.
“Got word from Dr. (Raul) Canlas that I have a partial tear in my plantar fascia,” Washington confirmed to Spin.ph after consulting with the renowned orthopedic surgeon.
The two-time Best Player of the Conference said he’ll have to wear an aircast for two weeks to aid his plantar fascia.
“I just have to wear an aircast for two weeks and I should be okay. Just sucks because it’s really bad timing with my team trying to get in the playoffs. I don’t think it’s that serious,” he added.
The 32-year-old Globalport superstar is averaging 19.1 points and 9.9 rebounds in 35.6 minutes of action this conference - all career-high numbers since being traded by Petron to Globalport before the start of last season’s Governors Cup.
The former Eckerd College standout is hopeful the team’s remaining big men Kelly Nabong, Jondan Salvador, rookie Justin Chua and even veteran Eric Menk will step on the big shoes he has vacated to keep the team’s playoff chances alive on Sunday against the Alaska Aces.
