IT pained Calvin Abueva sitting on the bench helplessly while Alaska absorbed yet another loss in the PLDT myDSL-PBA Philippine, this time courtesy of streaking Globalport, 94-84, on Friday night at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Last season’s Rookie of the Year was on street clothes sitting behind the team bench after suffering a sprain on his right foot during practice last Tuesday.
“Siyempre masakit na panoorin lang silang matalo,” he said afterwards. “Kulang sila sa tao, tapos medyo nawala pa `yung focus kaya ganun.”
The former NCAA Most Valuable Player, however, assured his injury is nothing serious.
"Wala naman, okay lang, natapilok lang, therapy-therapy lang muna ako at saka rest," he said.
Despite the Aces tumbling down to a 2-5 (win-loss) record, Abueva remains hopeful about the team’s All-Filipino campaign as he looks forward to rejoining his teammates when Alaska plays Meralco on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
"Next game namin babawi kami, at sana makabalik na ako," he said.
