IT may be a tall order but India coach Scott William Flemming is aiming for a win against the region's heavyweights in the tough Group F of the Fiba-Asia Championship second round.
After accomplishing the goal of winning a game in the preliminaries, Flemming is now setting its sights on cutting Asian giants China, Iran, and South Korea down to size.
India won its only game against Thailand in Group D to advance to the second round where they will meet teams from the so-called ‘group of death.’
India fell to unbeaten Iran, 58-102, on Monday but will still face China and Korea in the next two days.
“We came here and our first goal was to win a game, and we did that,” Flemming said. “Our goal now is to upset one of the teams.”
Flemming said the Fiba-Asia experience is bound to make his team better.
“We have a long way to go but this is good competition for us. We want to get into this level,” said Flemming.
Flemming rued that India just couldn’t hit open shots that would have given them a semblance of a chance against the Iranians.
“We struggled to take care of the basketball. We had some great looks but we couldn’t convert,” said Flemming.
