In most uncertain time, Jerwin Gaco grateful he has true friend in James Yap

    Oct 18, 2016
Jerwin Gaco and James Yap are together again at Rain or Shine.

IN his lowest moment, Jerwin Gaco is mighty glad he has a friend like James Yap.

Gaco, a longtime Star player, fell into uncertain times when he was told at the end of the franchise's campaign that a contract renewal was not a guarantee.

    Enter James Yap.

"Kinausap ako agad ni James nun eh. Basta 'pag wala daw akong nakuhang team,  wag akong mahiyang lumapit sa kanya kung may kailangan ako," said the former La Salle forward.

When Yap's stunning one-on-one trade to Rain or Shine for Paul Lee finally happened, Gaco said he suddenly received a call from his beloved friend.

Yap's initiative brought Gaco to tears, more so since his friend was going through a transition period of his own.

"Sobrang down to earth talaga yung taong yan. Napakabait at sobrang matulungin," he added.

Gaco bared that he already began trying out for a spot at Rain or Shine on Tuesday morning, just to prove that he is worth the endorsement from Yap.

He also vowed to gain a roster spot on his own merits.

Kaya nga since last month, nasa gym na rin ako lagi para kundisyon," he said, vowing to continue with the try out at Rain or Shine for as long as he is asked to.

"Kahit ilang linggo na try-out, okay ako. Mahirap talaga sitwasyon ko ngayon. Di mo alam kung next season nasa PBA ka pa o wala na," he said.

But Gaco admitted that no matter what happens, he is comforted by the thought that he has a real friend he can always count on.
