MERALCO is looking to extend its winning run in the Season 50 PBA Philippine Cup all the way to Okinawa, Japan.

A few hours after disposing previously unbeaten Magnolia, 78-76, the Bolts flew out of the country to kick off its campaign in the 3rd Home and Away Season of the East Asia Super League (EASL).

The Bolts will to their away game against the Ryukyu Golden Kings on the back of a three-game winning streak that saw them dispatch the Blackwater Bossing, Barangay Ginebra Kings, and the Hotshots in a five-day stretch.

It’s a grueling schedule Meralco has to deal with, but the team isn’t complaining.

“This is a testament to the team’s character. And it would be nice to get one more win as we move to Okinawa. We’ll be leaving (Monday) morning,” said coach Luigi Trillo.

The win improved Meralco’s record to 3-2 after starting the Season 50 of the PBA Philippine Cup on a 0-2 slate.

The team, which will be reinforced by Rondae Hollis Jefferson, Justin Brownlee and Ismael Romero, was hoping it wouldn’t be assigned a game at least prior to its departure for Japan, according to Trillo, in order to focus on the EASL which already kicked off two weeks ago.

Puerto Rican Ismael Romero is Meralco's third reinforcement.

“But this is the schedule given to us. And we’re used to this. Last year nakalaro kami ng BCL, EASL. So we’re used to playing multiple games,” said the Meralco coach.

“We’re also used to travel like this. But it doesn’t mean that we’re used to it na we wish to get the W. It’s nice that we got three straight. So sana that might be a good omen moving to Okinawa.”

Ryukyu lost to Taoyuan Pauian Pilots, 94-80, in Taipei City during the opener last Aug. 8.
