ON a four-game winning streak, Barangay Ginebra doesn’t have any plans of slowing down.
The Kings look to stretch their winning run as well as their steady climb in the standings of the PBA Philippine Cup when they take on the Air21 Express in a holiday doubleheader at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Friday.
At the bottom half leaderboard just two weeks ago, the league’s crowd darlings have suddenly sprang back to life behind their string of victories, the latest of which was a 97-90 trimming of Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in a game that saw the Kings complete a fightback from 18-points down.
Just like that, Ginebra is now running fourth with a 6-5 (win-loss) record behind defending champion Talk `N Text, San Mig Coffee, and Rain or Shine.
And the Kings are hoping to stay hot as they bid for a better position heading to the playoffs.
“We can’t take any days off,” said Siot Tanquingcen, the Ginebra coach. “Sa dikit dikit na standings, isang talo pwede kaming mapunta sa eighth (spot). So we’re grinding it through.”
It’s the Express who are actually in eight spot right now with a 4-8 card, no thanks to a three-game losing streak that came after their own three-game winning run.
The Express’ latest loss was at the hands of the Tropang Texters, 100-94, a setback that gave ninth-running Barako Bull (3-8) a semblance of hope in its own bid to advance to the quarterfinals.
