GLOBALPORT team owner Mikee Romero is eyeing a major facelift for his young team - and he wants to do it immediately.
“Yung rebuilding ng team ko na sinasabi ko dati - ngayon mangyayari yun," Romero, whose team is coming off a disappointing debut performance in the PBA Philippine Cup, said in an exclusive interview with Spin.ph.
Asked how soon, Romero said: "Within the week."
Romero said he is deep in negotiations with a lot of teams and boldly stated that he is now on the verge of putting together an unprecedented blockbuster trade deal.
“Hindi ito yung ini-expect niyo, maraming surprises," hinted the good-looking businessman. "Tiyak magugulat kayo."
Romero's teams have been proven winners in the PBL, ABL, and in even in major tournaments like the Southeast Asian Games and the Seaba, and after just one conference in the pro league the team owner said he is impatient to turn the Batang Pier's fortunes around.
“Kailangan ko nang palakasin ito, at ayokong maghintay ng matagal," said Romero, who reportedly financed the PBA board's trip to Singapore on Wednesday for its regular planning session.
“Ngayon ko gusto i-implement ito kasi ngayon alam na namin ang takbo sa PBA eh.”
At the moment, Romero’s team is said to be in talks with Talk 'N Text for enigmatic center Japeth Aguilar, with Batang Pier big man Rabeh Al-Hussaini eyed as bait in a direct swap.
Without confirming the Aguilar-for-Al-Hussaini negotiations, Romero hinted the deal he is putting together may involve more teams and players.
“Merun pa, marami pa," he said.
The team owner said the new players he plans to acquire will form the nucleus of his rebuilt side, but was quick to assure that any transaction he becomes involved in "will never include stars Gary David and Willie Miller and rookie AJ Mandani."
